Book Review of 'When' by Daniel H. Pink

9th April 2018 | Beverly Landais

Recently I was fortunate enough to hear bestselling author Daniel H. Pink speak in London at the Royal Society for the Arts. Drawing on his new book entitled 'When', Pink spoke expansively on the secret of perfect timing. With the promise of learning how to use the hidden patterns of the day to build the ideal schedule, naturally, I rushed out and bought the book. I was not disappointed.

Grounded in solid research from psychology, biology, and economics, Pink sets out to debunk the notion that timing is an art. In 'When' Pink demonstrates that timing, in fact, is a science. Pink reveals how working with our natural rhythms can enable us to manage our energy and make better decisions.

Presented his evidence in a persuasive and entertaining style, Pink provides lots of practical tips, mini case studies and examples. Whether you are a lark or an owl, there are plenty of ideas and straightforward strategies for getting the most out of your day. There is a brilliant section on how to deal with a midpoint slump during a project or assignment which is a must-read for anyone in need of a pick-me-up.

What's the best advice? Take a nappuccino! It sounds counter-productive yet apparently, if you drink a coffee then take a power nap of between 10-20 minutes, you'll be more alert, and productive. I'll drink to that.

One Marketing and Business Development Director recently commented after a training course lead by Beverly ‘there was a real sense of purpose and energy in the room which was infectious. Well worth taking the time out of the office. Beverly was outstanding.’ I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Beverly for any project she is invited to undertake."
